Brief Report from the Day

The W3C Web of Things event took place at the MindTrek 2014 Media Festival.

The Web of Things event took successfully place on November 5, 2014 at Sokos Hotel Torni, Tampere, Finland. During the morning, more than 40 people participated in the event.

The event included two keynote presentations and a panel discussion:

Introduction to the (Past) Day

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) promotes "One Web" that is available on any device. W3C Web of Things (WoT) abstracts the Internet of things with respect to Web technologies and services. This provides the easy-to-access Open Web Platform for (integrating) several kinds of novel application areas, ranging from health and sports applications to the Industrial Internet. (See the Web of Things interest group charter.)

The Web of Things session at MindTrek includes keynotes from W3C and VTT, and introduces the basic concepts, standards, and provides an informed view of the current state of affairs. The session is organized by W3C Finnish Office, hosted by Tampere University of Technology, Department of Mathematics.

The keynote speakers are Dave Raggett and Juha-Pekka Soininen.

Organization

Chair of the event is Adjunct Professor Ossi Nykänen (ossi.nykanen@tut.fi), TUT & the W3C Finnish Office.

The TUT stakeholder units include the Department of Mathematics, Department of Signal processing, Department of Automation Science and Engineering, Department of Intelligent Hydraulics and Automation, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Systems, Department of Pervasive Computing, and Department of Business Information Management and Logistics.
