Some 100 people attended the opening ceremony at Tampere Hall on Friday.
The W3C Finnish Offices warmly thanks both the participants and the

The W3C Office in Finland is situated at the Tampere University of Technology, Digital Media Institute (DMI). Digital Media Institute (DMI) is an independent research unit of Tampere University of Technology (TUT), Tampere, Finland. Its main purpose is to organise and carry out multidisciplinary research in the broad field of digital media. DMI unites expertise in the following areas: signal processing, software systems, electronics, telecommunication, hypermedia, and mathematics. In each year more than 400 research workers are employed in DMI's 100 and some projects. The projects are directed by professors and senior researchers from TUT's Department of Information Technology.
Tampere is beautiful city founded by Gustav III on 1 October 1779, on the bank of Tammerkoski rapids. Tampere is the largest inland city of the Nordic countries with a population of over 190 000.

There are frequent flights to the capital, Helsinki, from many European cities. The flight time from Helsinki to Tampere is about 30 minutes. Tampere can also be reached directly by air from Stockholm/Sweden. Tampere-Pirkkala airport is situated 15 km from the city centre of Tampere. Helsinki and Tampere are connected by regular, fast bus and train services. A bus service to Tampere operates directly from Helsinki-Vantaa airport. The journey takes about two hours by train and three hours by bus.
The opening event is organised by the W3C Finnish Office, in co-operation with the Digital Media Institute (DMI), Tampere University of Technology (TUT), and the eTampere Office.
